BODY SEDAN

The 443 seems to be the most common size of Tucker, either as a full hardtop or pickup version. Lyle Van Wert has a narrow cab '47 version which has no springing and a much cruder power steering arrangement than my '53. Early machines shared the 3 speed gearbox of the 423, later ones had a four speed. The usual engine is the Chrysler industrial IND 6 version of the flathead six found in many Dodge trucks, and the axles are 1/2 ton Dodge WC types with the ends modified to take the track drives. Transfer case and fuel tank are aluminium and most of the hardware is Chrysler, particularly Dodge.

In the '60s Tucker offered the same machine with wider pontoons (fibreglass ?) and an extra track link centre reinforcement. They also had the 140 HP Jeep Gladiator engine on offer as an alternative to the Chrysler IND 6, which by that time had been uprated to 115 HP. Load and towing capacities had risen too, in line with the extra horsepower.
