1944 GMC DUKW
|

This is DUKW hull number 14962. Bought it years ago, spent a lot of money getting the hull professionally repaired and buying parts so I could get it right. It is a British Army standardised rebuild and must have been inservice till about 1970, then went to work for a civilian operator in the highlands of Scotland where it hauled power poles and gear to remote sites.
When I bought it I had to replace the brakes, bilge pump and exhaust tubing, cargo floor, windscreen, and numerous other bits. Also put about three square yards of metal in the hull, under the transfer case and in the rear quarters. Fitted the ring mount, A-frame, and raiser units as well.
Runs and drives well, but I've just never used it as it is really too big for one person operation.
